STUDENT INFORMATION SHEET

The Visual Arts courses at Adam Scott C.V.I. are designed to foster the artistic growth of the individual student. Visual Arts helps student become more competent in an increasingly technological world. Creative thinking, problem-solving, risk taking, team work, and communications are valuable skills that students learn through art education. Commitment to diversity, openness, and experience are key to the total development of the student. Cooperation with teachers and classmates is imperative. Tolerance for the ideas and efforts of others is expected. Acceptance of assignment deadlines and classroom routines combined with a dedication to work will ensure a rewarding experience in the Visual Arts class.

AWA 2O1 VISUAL ARTS, GRADE 10, OPEN

This course emphasizes learning through practice; building on what students know; and introducing them to new ideas, materials, and processes for artistic thinking and experimentation. Student learning will include the refined application of the elements and principles of design, incorporating the creative and design processes, and the relationship between form and function. Students will also learn about the connections between crafts and their historical contexts. Course objectives will be achieved through a program focused on craft making.

Students will be required to pay $15.00 for supplies.

COURSE CONTENT/UNITS

A study of colour theory ( value, intensity, warm colours, monochromatic colours etc.) will be continued. Students will be encouraged to experiment with paint application, material selection, and technique.

The final mark will be composed of a final examination and culminating activity (30%) combined with a term mark (70%). The final examination will include theory, art appreciation, and a practical component. The culminating task will be a large scale project applying theory, technique, and art appreciation from the entire semester. The term mark will be comprised of all studio projects, theory, tests, as well as the weekly sketchbook assignments.

Learning skills such as works independently, teamwork, organization, homework completion, work habits, and initiative will be monitored and reported.

In addition to the three main reporting periods, students will be provided with frequent updates as to their standing in the course. Opportunities for extra help are available before and after school.
